Upon completion of this three-part module, you should be able to:
1 - Safely operate Speedotron lighting equipment. (CLR 2, CLR 3, VLO 1, VLO 3)
2 - Interpret reflective meter readings using exposure and output settings to place the tone. (CLR 1, CLR 2, CLR 3, VLO 1, VLO 3)
3 - Interpret and apply lighting schematics to light an object separate from the background. (CLR 2, CLR 3, VLO 1, VLO 3)
4 - Design and implement a production plan for a commercial photography shoot. (CLR 1, CLR 2, CLR 4, VLO 1, VLO 5)
The module learning goals have been mapped to the Course Learning Requirments (CLR), and Vocational Learning Outcomes (VLO) listed at the bottom of the page.
This module outlines the safe setup of the Speedotron pack and head strobe equipment. We will review reflective metering to clarify the relationship between light quantity, exposure, and density to prepare you to light glass objects.
Module Learning Goals - 1 & 2
This module applies the Zone System to light glass objects on a light background using the Speedotron strobe equipment.
We will outline methods to increase contrast when lighting on bright backgrounds by leveraging glass's refractive properties and explore how reference images are used in commercial photography to assist in planning your glass assignment.
Module Learning Goals - 1, 2, 3, & 4
This module explores the reflective properties of glass when lighting for dark backgrounds. We will outline how output aspect ratios impact an image. During class time, you will practice the lighting for your glass assignment, which will be shared for critique on Instagram using a unique assignment hashtag.
Module Learning Goals - 2, 3, & 4
When you have earned credit for this course, you will have demonstrated the ability to:
CLR 1 - Properly select and use appropriate cameras for particular assignments.
CLR 2 - Apply specialized lighting techniques using various lighting equipment, accessories and modifiers.
CLR 3 - Use advanced electronic flash meter techniques.
CLR 4 - Communicate a specific message through a creative photograph.
