Formatting:

• Maximum 8 pages (excluding references)

• 11–12 pt font

• 1-inch margins

• Figures allowed within page limit

• Diagrams encouraged (programmatic arc)
  
  

1. Rationale (Problem–Gap–Hook) — ~250 words

This section must clearly articulate:

• The precise problem

• The knowledge or system gap

• Why this gap matters now (hook)

This is not a background section.

It must:

• Avoid literature dumping

• Avoid aspirational framing

• Position the innovation within a defined development phase

You must demonstrate phase awareness.

2. Research Objectives & Questions (½ page)

Clearly state:

• Primary Objective

• Secondary Objectives (if applicable)

Then list:

• Primary Research Question

• Secondary Research Questions

Each question must be:

• Phase-appropriate

• Testable

• Matched to a design

Avoid broad exploratory questions unless you are in the Development phase.

3. Programmatic Research Framework & Phased Plan (1.5–2 pages)

This section integrates Day 1 + Day 3 work.

You must include:

• Identification of current phase

• Maturity level

• Preceding study logic

• Next logical study

Include a 3-box diagram:

• Preceding Study

• Current Study

• Next Logical Study

For each:

• Research Question

• Design

• Uncertainty Reduced

• Decision Enabled

Sections 4-6 are concerned with your current phase

4. Methods — 2–2.5 pages

This section must include:

4.1 Design

• Study design

• Justification relative to question

4.2 Participants / Context

• Who

• Why appropriate

4.3 Data Strategy

• Data sources

• Construct → Indicator mapping

• What assumptions link them

4.4 Analysis Plan

• How data will answer the research question

• How uncertainty will be reduced

You must include this statement:

“My methods align with my phase because…”

No method may appear without justification.

5. Ethical Considerations & Governance (½–1 page)

Must include:

• Standard ethical safeguards

• XR-specific vulnerabilities (if relevant)

• Data ownership

• Worst-case misuse

• Mitigation logic

6. Knowledge Translation & Impact Pathway (1–1.5 pages)

This section must reflect Day 3 architecture.

Include:

6.1 Knowledge Users (Top 3)

Specify:

• Role

• Context

Avoid generic audiences.

6.2 Dominant KT Goal

Choose one and describe logic:

• Awareness

• Decision-making

• Practice change

• Policy change

• Commercialization

• Research advancement

You must choose one dominant goal.

6.3 KT Strategies

Strategies must align to:

• Your dominant goal

• Your research phase

No premature implementation claims.

Include:

“My KT goal aligns with my research phase because…”

6.4 Feasibility & Adoption Risks

• Resource barriers

• Institutional resistance

• Timeline fragility
