Blackboard is an Learning Management System used in many Ontario colleges. As an LMS, Blackboard is low tech and easy to use to accommodate the various levels of digital literacy of instructors in post secondary education. The platform provides an easy to use platform that supports instruction and assessment as well as an online learning feature with Blackboard Collaborate.

Instructors can share content or chare controls with students to share material. Through the Share Applications tab instructors can display lecture slides or other material for discussion. Breakout Rooms can be set up in advance or created randomly during lecture.
Access to course material - Instructors can control when material is available to students either through forced sequence or manually making content visible.
Student progress in a course - Instructors can see student interaction with course material. If material has be opened and how much of the content has been previewed is visible to instructors.
Summative Feedback - Feedback can be provided online once work is submitted therefore allowing multiple attempts to submit work and submitting work early would allow for feedback before final grading.
Gradebook - Gradebook is preloaded with forms of assessment that instructors can select and weight for the final course grade.
Online Video - Blackboard has its own Online video communication system through Blackboard Collaborate
Time saving measures - Instructors can copy material between course shells which is helpful for sessional instructors working part-time for a collage or university
Reporting - Gradebook will not write grades into the Institution's SIS.
Feedback - Instructors cannot provide live feedback for students as they work on and develop their assessment tasks.
Online Video Features - Blackboard Collaborate is limited in interactive features for online classes.
