Students are responsible for tracking their activities and the number of hours worked.
The Research PROGRESS Assessment form includes 10 questions, each rated on a 5-point scale, along with a short answer section for each question to feedback that can't be captured by the scale. Although this form is pass/fail, it is designed to offer formal feedback using a debriefing approach (see 3 possible approaches to debriefing). You should provide this feedback to the student to support their development.
Operational definitions:
Debriefing is a structured process of reviewing and discussing an event or activity after it has occurred, with the aim of analyzing what happened, understanding why it happened, and determining ways to improve future performance or outcomes.
The PEARLS Approach (Promoting Excellence and Reflective Learning in Simulation): This approach is used primarily in simulation-based training environments. It combines self-assessment, facilitator guidance, and feedback to promote reflective learning.
The 3D Model (Description, Dynamics, Decision): This model is commonly used in healthcare and other high-stakes environments. It involves a structured format to describe what happened, explore the dynamics of team interactions, and make decisions about future actions.
After-Action Review: The AAR is a method of debriefing that originated in the military and is now widely used in other fields. It involves a guided discussion focusing on what was supposed to happen, what actually happened, why it happened, and how to improve.
