I typically start by checking in with any updates I've been pinged over Slack or Email. After responding to the quick or urgent requests, I settle into my own work.
I spend some time reviewing what I accomplished from the day before and I work through open Jira tickets assigned to me prior to my team's standup, so I can report blockers & closed tickets.
Later in the morning, I check in with my manager and my teammates. Many of our projects prefer a standup style meeting - a quick summary of progress made yesterday, goals for the day, and any blockers standing in our way of success.
Together, we confirm our priorities and I also take the meeting as a chance to mention any issues I may be having so I can set up time to sync with another colleague afterward. After standup, I'll review any tickets I'm working on and make sure they've been updated with any action items we've agreed upon as a group.
After aligning on priorities with my team, it's time to get things done. I work with my partner on our paired programming tasks, working together to ensure a high quality deliverable. At this time, I might also have a code review session to ensure any work I've done alone is standardized according to best practices.
Depending on the day, I may have dedicated time to focus and work or I may have meetings with my project team or clients to answer questions, dive into details or drive alignment. Either way, I love the easy access I have to my Qvest.US team leveraging Slack.
Having been hard at work its nice to take a moment to step away to grab or make my lunch, go outside for a bit, and recharge.
After lunch, I spend an hour or so working with my Qvest team mates on an internal initiative. That could be any internal work, from organizing a happy hour with the Culture Pod to helping put together an executive training deck from an Employee Resource Group.
Once our internal work is wrapped up for today, I reconvene with my partner for more paired programming. We work through ideas that we have thought of throughout the day to solve our challenges from the morning. Inevitably, we take a quick coffee break and stretch our legs before diving back in.
In the last couple hours of the day, I'm cleaning up code notes from our pair programming and sending any questions off to make sure our team & the client are aligned on key decisions and requirements.
I take this opportunity to tackle some tasks on my to-do list, such as scheduling upcoming meetings and revising a deliverable based on my manager's feedback. Around this time, I also head to the kitchen for my 4th coffee of the day!
Before ending my day, I ensure all tasks are completed and my tickets reflect the progress made. I'm prepared for tomorrow's meetings and have given my team a brief update on my open items. After a productive day, I'm ready to unwind and recharge for tomorrow!
