Students develop a broad range of Textiles skills, including:
· Analysing commercial textiles/fashion designer and artists.
· Experimenting with textiles techniques in order to help refine ideas
· Creating imaginative ideas based upon a topic of choice.
Evaluating work constructively in order to guide their outcome choice being made.
These skills support their independent project work leading into Year 11
Students require basic drawing materials, including coloured pencils. Access to a sewing machine & digital camera at home can be helpful but is not essential.
·Coursework – Unit 1 - Portfolio (60%): Portfolio forms two major projects started in Year 10 and completed in Year 11.
Exam – Unit 2 – Externally set assignment (40%): One “bigger picture” themed practical project set in the January spring term of Year 11, by the WJEC board, and completed under 10 hours of exam conditions.
All unit 1 Portfolio coursework must be completed and submitted before January year 11 exam unit 2 – externally set assignment period commences.
Students must be creative, independent, and self‑motivated, using time outside lessons for research and the development of ideas.
Strong organisation and time management skills will support high‑quality coursework and successful independent working.
Students can only select one Design & Technology subject from Food & Nutrition, Practical Woodwork, Product Design & Textiles
