Geographical Investigations
- Students will be tested on their ability to plan and analyse geographical investigations on any two of the topics covered on the course.
The department is well resourced for the course with textbooks for classroom use and fieldwork equipment for investigations in and outside of school. Every student will be provided with an exercise book which they will be required to bring to every lesson.
Paper 1 Physical Geography (1hr 45mins) 36% of final grade
Paper 2 Human Geography (1hr 45mins) 36% of final grade
Paper 4 Geographical Investigations (1hr 30mins) 28% of final grade
Students will be regularly assessed throughout the course through classwork and homework, which will largely consist of past exam questions and mini fieldwork investigations. At the completion of each topic, students will sit an ‘end of topic’ assessment which will test their ability to apply their knowledge to past papers and enable them to measure their progress
A genuine interest and commitment to the subject is essential. Keeping up to date with geographical events
around the world will improve student’s ability to analyse and interpret geographical information and allow
them to incorporate up to date facts and figures into their exam answers.
A revision guide for the subject is highly advisable and the opportunity to purchase the recommended book will be given once the course begins.
