Subject Content
Students undertake two papers at the end of Year 11.
Paper 1 – Depth Studies
Length: 1 hour 30 minutes
Weighting: 50% of overall IGCSE
Students will focus on two depth studies.
Selected Depth Studies:
Germany: development of a dictatorship, 1918-45
A divided union: civil rights in the USA, 1945-74
Paper 2 – Historical Investigation and Bredth Study
Length: 1 hour 30 minutes
Weighting: 50% of overall IGCSE
Students will complete one historical investigation
The Vietnam Conflict, 1945-75
Students will complete one bredth study which encompasses an 100 year period.
Changes in medicine, 1848-1948
What is Expected of the Student?
IGCSE History is academically demanding, but stimulating. There is only one entry of paper offered, covering Grades A* - G.
Good literacy skills are required.

Additional Information
The units will provide plenty of opportunity for investigating a wide variety of sources and issues. We encourage our students to develop their own research and ideas and to try these out in classroom discussion and debate. As such, this subject provides a strong foundation for careers requiring independence of mind.
