Choir - Mrs. Barnes

karenbarnes@oneillschools.org

Music may not be seen as the most important subject to continue with school closure, but scientific research shows that continuing music education – even in times with no school – is beneficial to the mental health and growth of children. Music helps us describe our emotions and process difficult situations. I encourage everyone to listen to soothing music to relax during this time! Or if you’re mad, maybe some rock ‘n’ roll! Music is emotion!

Here are a few websites that are providing free educational access during closure:

    • Username: snow

    • Password: 2020

Here are a few websites that will help explain rhythm, pitch, and more:

  • Instrument Families: https://www.thinglink.com/scene/374799720679211009

  • Rhythm: https://www.musictheory.net/lessons

  • Online Piano: https://www.apronus.com/music/flashpiano.htm

Here are a few websites that will encourage good listening:

  • Pandora: www.pandora.com – have to create an account, but can listen for free

  • Youtube: www.youtube.com – search for different types of music like instrumental, acapella, country, rock, etc.

    • Try artists like Pentatonix, Peter Hollens, or BYU Vocal Point, and explore from there!

  • Go Noodle: gonoodle.com – have to create an account, but tons of free activities!

  • Incredibox: incredibox.com – create your own music!

If you're looking for a guideline of which activities on which day, here is my recommendation:

  • Tuesday, March 17th

    • Try a game on the music tech teacher site; use the help links as needed

  • Wednesday, March 18th

    • Experiment on the Music Chrome Lab site under SONG WRITER and create your own song! You can save it and send it to me if you'd like to share!!

  • Thursday, March 19th

    • Try a different game on the music tech teacher site; use the help links as needed

  • Friday, March 20th

    • Create your own song on Incredibox! You can save it and send it to me if you'd like to share!

  • Monday, March 23rd

    • Listen to a few Pentatonix songs on Youtube and find your favorite. OR start with Peter Hollens or BUY Vocal Point and find your favorite! You can share it with me if you'd like!

  • Tuesday, March 24th

    • Try a different game on the music tech teacher site; use the help links as needed

  • Wednesday, March 25th

    • Create a station on Pandora of music you like! Feel free to share the station with me and I'll listen along!

  • Thursday, March 26th

    • Experiment on the Music Chrome Lab link with the VOICE SPINNER and listen to it forwards and backwards at different speeds! Then check out the SOUNDWAVES, SPECTROGRAM, or HARMONICS page to see some sound waves!

  • Friday, March 27th

    • If you have Netflix, check out the documentaries done on different artists like Pentatonix or Taylor Swift! If you have Disney+, watch a musical - RECOMMENDATION: New Lion King - and think about how the music helps influence the story. Does it help in character development? Do the songs have choreography? Do they use props? Who sings? Which part do you think they sing - Soprano, Alto, Tenor, or Bass? How do the songs in the original cartoon compare and differ to the songs in the new live action?

  • Monday, March 30th

    • Prep to return to school! Send any and all links to Mrs. Barnes to share. I'd LOVE to hear what you come up with during this "break"!!

This is all accessible on Canvas as well!
