The Summer H.E.A.T. Internship is a collaboration between United Way, Bloomington Career Academy and a few local rural high schools including Olympia. H.E.A.T. stands for Healthcare, Engineering/Education, Agriculture, and Technology which are the top industries in McLean County. United Way facilitates the connection between local businesses in these industries and high school students wishing to gain on-the-job experience. Students entering their junior or senior year are provided the opportunity to intern 10 hours/week while also attending an internship course focused on soft skills. Bloomington Career Academy partners with United Way by providing the teachers/mentors and awarding 0.5 credit for the internship course. Students are chosen based upon interest and ability to work in Bloomington/Normal.
