Drivers Education Class: Drivers Education is offered at Olympia High School for all students residing in the district. Students can be added to the rosters during the standard course selection process. Rosters are created based on course requests, academic eligibility, fit and birthdate. Students are put into the term based on when they turn 15. Some students may not be able to fit in drivers education in their preferred term due to course conflicts. Students get their permit during the term they take the Drivers Education class. Students must hold their permit for 9 months prior to getting their drivers license.
If you have any questions about scheduling the class, please make an appointment to speak to your counselor. The class is not a graduation requirement and can be taken through a private driving school. We have offered a summer drivers education class the past couple of years as well.
Behind the Wheel: Upon successful completion of the class, a Drivers Education teacher will reach out regarding the Behind the Wheel experience. Students will be taken out of another class to get their driving time in. They are responsible for missed work. Six hours of behind the wheel is required. The remaining hours of driving experience must be completed with a parent.
Applying for a drivers license: To apply for a driver's license at age 16, a student who has held an instruction permit for nine months must visit a Driver Services facility and provide the following: 50 hour certificate verifying practice driving time; written parental consent; acceptable identification verifying full legal name, written signature, date of birth, Social Security number and Illinois residency and the required fee.
Transcript request: Students who need a transcript for the DMV can create an account at Parchment.com and download their transcript. Students may also download their transcript using Schoolinks (Go to Student on left menu, click Record Request, click Download unofficial transcript in blue).
