Objectives:
Two of the ways God reveals his amazing plan for our lives are through the Bible and Mass on Sunday.
Jesus is the greatest teacher who ever lived.
We gather at church with our family, friends, and our parish family to worship God in the way that Jesus taught us to.
Opening Prayer:
Start by saying, “Let’s take a moment in silence to be still and quiet and open ourselves up to whatever God wants to lead us today.”
Have your child/children bless themselves and read the prayer:
God, our loving Father, thank you for all the ways you bless me. Help me to be aware that every person, place and adventure I experience is an opportunity to love you more. Fill me with a desire to change and to grow, and give me the grace to become the best-version-of-myself in every moment of every day. Amen.
Pages 104-105 are a review of what you have learned in this chapter. Give your child time to answer all of the questions and review the answers with them at the end. Suggest that they may have to look back in the chapter to find the answers to some of the trickier questions.
Have your child write as if they are writing a letter to Jesus. In this chapter they will be writing a letter asking him what they don’t understand about our Catholic faith.
Read the closing prayer on page 108-109
The Creed is a summary of what we believe as Catholics. You can find the Nicene Creed. Take a few minutes to read it slowly and deliberately. Stop after every line and ask yourself, “Do I believe this is true?” If you have doubts or questions, don’t get discouraged. Recognize them as opportunities to study our great faith. Explore those doubts and questions vigorously, one at a time.
Examine why the Church teaches what she teaches in each instance, and allow your questions and doubts to strengthen your faith rather than diminish it. Then share what you learn with your child.
Be, Lord Jesus, a bright flame before me, a guiding star above me, a smooth path below me, a kindly shepherd behind me: today, tonight, and forever. Amen.
