Week 28 - Friday 12th April 2019

Welcome to our newsletter for the last week of term. We hope you have a lovely Easter holiday and we look forward to welcoming children back to school on Monday 29th April 2019.

Easter Service

Today our children have participated in an Easter service. We are grateful to Mrs Judd from Nolton Church for coming to school to deliver the special assembly. As part of our celebrations all children were treated to a hot cross bun.

Special Award

Our school cook, Mrs Davies, has been so impressed with a child's exceptional manners over the past few months that she decided to present the child with an Easter egg. Matthew M from year 6 has been praised for his exceptional manners when speaking to the catering staff and always thanking them for his food. Lovely to receive such positive feedback from the catering team. Well done Matthew.

Cross Country

Well done to all those who took part in the Cross Country events over the past few months. A final event was held last Saturday, and Grace and Dan were presented with a trophy for overall years 3 and 4. Fantastic effort by all involved.

Eco Committee

Well done to everyone that entered the Eco Code competition. In a special assembly Lily from year 3 was awarded a certificate and the rest of the school was shown her winning design.

The Big Pedal

The final results of the Big Pedal have been collated and we are thrilled to tell you that Oldcastle Primary recorded the most journeys in the Borough of Bridgend. Fantastic support from everyone involved.

New trees

We are delighted to let you know that we have received some trees from Octopus Energy and these have been planted in the small garden area by year 2. We are looking forward to seeing them grow.

Year 4 Tennis Sessions

Year 4 took part in a primary schools tennis festival on Thursday at Bridgend Tennis Club. Everyone looked like they thoroughly enjoyed.

Choir concert

The Oldcastle School choir performed at a concert last Friday evening with Bridgend Male Voice Choir in St Mary's RC Church. The Male Voice choir were delighted that our choir could perform with them at the concert and congratulated the choir members on their performance.

Nut free school

Reminder - as a school we strive to be 'nut free'. Please can we ask that food containing nuts is not included in children's lunch boxes. We have a number of children with an intolerance to nuts as well as a few children who have a severe allergy who may experience an anaphylactic shock as a result of coming into contact with nut products. Please can we ask that you consider the products being put into lunch boxes and check whether these items contain any form of nuts.

Seaquest Family Activity Day

Seaquest have informed us that they are holding a Family Activity Day on Tuesday 16th April. There will be plenty for children to get involved in including Wales' newest Sea Monster 'The Cragen' appearing in the harbour with a message about keeping our oceans clean. There is also a 'Design your own Sea Monster' competition, more information is available on the Seaquest website or Facebook page.

Headteacher Award

Headteacher Award

  • A headteachers assembly did not take place today due to the Easter service.

School Photos

Our solar panels have been loving this sunny weather we have been experiencing this week. Our Eco Committee will be putting together some information on the energy generated and feeding this back to children in all classes.

Our nursery children were treated to a visit from a couple of lambs. Thank you to Mrs Roberts for bringing in the animals.
