Week 23 - Friday 8th March 2019
Welcome to our newsletter for week ending 8th March. Its been a very busy week back in school following February half term.
Eisteddfod
On Monday we celebrated our Eisteddfod. The children love the excitement and build up to find out which ‘house’ has won with the most points. This year we are delighted to let you know that GREEN house won. All children have played a role in creating some fantastic work as part of our Eisteddfod celebrations. One of the celebrations of the Eisteddfod is the Chairing of the Bard which is a pupil from year 6 who has won the poetry competition. This year the Bard is William. Da Iawn William.
Eco Committee
Our Eco Committee presented a special school assembly today to inform our children about our Eco Code. The Eco Committee have put a lot of work into preparing a presentation, along with Miss Williams, to show to their classmates and highlight the schools commitment to sustainability, improving well-being and health eating. During their presentation a competition for pupils was launched. Children have been asked to develop a new Eco Code for the school, all entries need to be received by Friday 22nd March and children should include their name and class on the back. More information is available from the Eco Committee.
Solar Project
We are very excited to see the scaffolding being put up around our canteen building as this means our solar project installation is about to start! The work will commence next Tuesday and hopefully be completed by the end of the week. The solar panels are designed as infill panels which means they will form part of the existing roof design. As part of the installation we will have a smart screen tv in our reception foyer which will update on the amount of energy being generated. We are so excited by the scheme and can’t wait to see how much energy we are producing from our canteen roof!
Parents Evening Bookings
Parents evening meetings will be held during week beginning 1st April. If you have not received an email or need some assistance booking the appointment please contact the school office.

Revamped library
Our year 6 children have worked really hard over the last few weeks creating a new library space for children to enjoy. The area is so much tidier. Well done year 6.
Red Nose Day
The School Council have decided that Oldcastle Primary School will be supporting Red Nose Day this year on Friday 15th March. Children are invited to wear red or their own clothes on the 15th. We welcome donations towards the Red Nose charity.
Grounds Day
We will be holding a Grounds Day on Saturday 16th March from 10am when we hope parents will be able to join us to tidy up the external areas of the school. At the moment we have a list of jobs including window cleaning, litter picking, refurbishing the raised beds, building new raised beds, painting the metal container and a general clean up. The day is usually very productive and the PTA will be providing refreshments! We hope you can join us.
School Communication
Please note that we will no longer be using Schoop as a communication tool for the school. If you haven’t already please ensure you download our new communication app - The School App to keep up to date with news and announcements for Oldcastle.
