Nursery and Reception Sports Day

We are looking forward to our nursery and reception sports day next Thursday 30th June which will be held in Hersonbridge School.

Children will leave school around 12.40pm to walk to Heronsbridge - we hope that parents will be able to help walk with the children. Please let the class teacher know if you can assist with this.

Once the children arrive in Heronsbridge sports field they will be taken to the children's area and supervised by the class teacher and support staff. Parents will be allocated a parents area in a separate location to enable you to view al the sports events. Children will remain in the children's area for the duration of the event.

The events will start at 1pm and be completed by 2.30pm. Children can wear their house colour t-shirt, shorts and trainers. Please ensure children have a hat, water bottle and suncream applied. The event is weather dependant and we will make a decision on the morning of the event if we cannot proceed with the event due to adverse weather. This will be communicated with parents by email. The PTA will be selling refreshments for parents - we hope you can support them.

Children may leave with parents at the end of the event as long as they are signed out on the teachers register.

Barney

Barney loved showing Swansea University how he is used in Oldcastle Primary School. Barney was filmed today to show how wellbeing dogs can be used in schools. Our wellbeing dog is so settled and part of our team. His job purpose is wellbeing, behaviour and emotional support. We are so lucky to have Barney. We look forward to sharing the video with parents when we receive it.

United Nations Children's Rights

Year 2 have been looking at point 28 of the United Nations Children's Rights - 'Are children treated equally in schools?’ They have created slogans and developed protest banners. They then paraded around the yard and school corridors in protest for equal rights! Da Iawn year 2.

Thank You!

It's National PTA Week this week and we want to say a huge THANK YOU to our active PTA for being so involved in our school community.

Curriculum - Feedback from parents

From September 2022 all schools will have to implement their curriculum and assessment arrangements in line with the New Curriculum for Wales. (Further information on the Curriculum for Wales can be found by clicking this link - Curriculum Link

This year staff, governors and pupils have worked really hard to design a curriculum that underpins the 4 Purposes of the New Curriculum. As a school, we are very excited about the opportunities the curriculum will bring for both our pupils and the community.

As we implement the curriculum we will continue to evaluate and review what we offer our pupils, ensuring the curriculum is authentic, meaningful and essential for all our pupils.

We would be really interested in your evaluation and feedback on the curriculum and also what you feel we could add to ensure that we are creating confident individuals who will be good citizens and ready for work.

If you would like to contribute we would be really grateful if you spare a few minutes to complete the google form below.

Year 4 Dragon's Den Pitches

Year 4 have been working collaboratively to prepare for their Dragons’ Den pitches. They have been creating blueprints for their inventions in their groups and ensuring they have budgeted enough for all materials that they will need.

Barney decided the best place to keep cool today was on our new wooden flooring next to the 110 year old stone wall of Oldcastle School.

Year 2 were delighted to welcome an ex Oldcastle headteacher to talk to them today about school life when she worked in the school. Mrs Jones retired in 1994 and had some great stories to tell the children. Thank you for visiting Mrs Jones.
