This class is designed to meet the needs of heritage Arabic speakers who understand spoken Arabic and read simple sentences in Arabic. Students will use their background knowledge to further develop their reading, writing, and grammar skills through hands-on activities related to art, family traditions, food, and celebrations. In addition, students will gain knowledge of Arabic-speaking countries’ history, and geography.

Heritage1 or department placement
This class is a continuation of the heritage speakers’ program that focuses on developing reading and writing skills for students who already understand, speak, read, and write Arabic. Students will use their background knowledge to further develop their language skills through hands-on activities related to school activities, home traditions, architects, cities, and communities. In addition, students will deepen their knowledge of Arabic-speaking countries’ geography, literature, music, and cultures. The class is taught mostly in Arabic and students will increasingly use it to prepare oral presentations, debates, dialogues, role-playing, and other communicative activities.
