Growing Together from Day One
Overview
The purpose of early childhood programming is to help each child develop the skills necessary to be a successful learner. Through child-centered learning activities, students in grades Pre-K and Kindergarten develop important social-emotional, language, cognitive and physical skills.
Because we believe the child's first teacher is the family, our Early Childhood Department provides resources, programs and opportunities for families to learn how to interact with their small children and start teaching them literacy skills at home from an early age.
Programs
Parents as Teachers
Parents as Teachers is an International Organization that matches parents and caregivers with trained professionals who make regular personal home visits during a child’s earliest years in life, from prenatal through kindergarten.
The program is based on the philosophy that parents are their children's first and most influential teachers. Resources provided by Parents as Teachers include:
Personal Visits: Parent educators visit families monthly and use Parent as Teachers curriculum
Developmental screenings of the child: cognitive, language, social/emotional, motor)
Group Meetings: Parental networking opportunities as well as new educational information and support with parenting skills
Resource Network: Parent educators connect families with community resources and provide early intervention for children with developmental delays.
