Owen J. Roberts Middle School maintains a 1:1 computer program using Chromebooks for students in grades 7-8. The Chromebook initiative intends to provide students with standardized and equal access to technology and increase student engagement. More information on the 1:1 initiative can be found here.
A $25 technology fee will be assessed for each Chromebook on an annual basis. This annual fee is required to give your student the opportunity to use the Chromebook both at school and at home and covers repair costs for standard types of damage. If this fee is a financial burden, please contact the Owen J. Roberts Middle School office. Intentional damage or abuse will not be covered. Please see more about repair costs here.
During the school year students should go to the Library if they have any Chromebook issues/repair needs.
Expectations and Guidelines for Student Use of Chromebooks:
1. Bring Chromebooks to school every day, charged and ready to use. Take it home at night.
2. Chromebooks will be used in the classroom at the direction of the teacher as it fits with the class plan. Like any other electronic device, they should be put away when not being used for classroom purposes. If you are taking notes using your Chromebook, please inform your teacher in advance.
3. Charging: Please bring your Chromebook to school charged. If you need to charge it, charging stations will be available with charging cords in the Main Lobby.
4. Personalize: You may personalize with stickers or a cover if you like. This will make it easy for you to identify and keep track of your Chromebook. Do not cover up the keyboard, any vents or fans with a sticker and do not use any kind of paint on the Chromebook.
