The following administrative guidelines apply to the implementation of Policy #237 (Electronic Devices):
Middle School
Students are not to use audio listening devices- cell phones, digital cameras (including cameras contained in cell phones), Smartwatches, AirPods, or other such devices, any time during the school day. All cell phones, Smartwatches, or similar devices are to be kept in lockers during the school day.
The School District is not responsible for the loss, theft, damage, or vandalism to student cell phones or other electronic devices that students choose to bring with them to school. Students are strongly encouraged to safeguard these items.
Discipline:
Students who possess or use a cell phone or other electronic device in violation of the usage guidelines as outlined above will be subject to the following disciplinary action:
First Offense – The student will have the device confiscated and turned over to the principal or his/her designee. The item will be held in the Main Office until the end of the school day at which time the student may retrieve the item. A verbal warning will be issued.
Second Offense – The student will have the device confiscated and turned over to the principal or his/her designee. The item will be held in the Main Office until the end of the school day at which time the student may retrieve the item. A lunch detention will be assigned.
All Further Offenses - The student will have the device confiscated and turned over to the Principal or his/her designee. The item will be held in the Main Office until retrieved by a parent or guardian. The student will be assigned an after-school detention. The student may be asked to turn in their device to the office daily and a parent/guardian may be asked to pick up the device.
Refusal of a student to surrender to a staff member a cell phone or electronic device that is used or possessed in violation of the above guidelines will be considered insubordination and the appropriate disciplinary action will be applied.
