Teaching to enhance writing embraces a pedagogy that revolves around inquiry and innovation within a writing program. It involves us constantly questioning and challenging ourselves to know exactly what is happening in our writing program and know the effect of our practice and to inquire into things that will enhance our students' writing and keep us up to date with what will enhance writing in general.
Teaching Collaboratively is also vital to enhancing writing. This does not mean that teachers need to be in collaborative classrooms, it means that teachers need to use collaborative practices to focus and improve their teaching practice.
Two frameworks are linked to below that have been designed as part of MIT inquiries over the past couple of years that help teachers to reflect on their pedagogy towards teaching and enhancing writing.
