Innovating our teaching practice is vital for ensuring that all students within our classes are being given the best opportunities to engage themselves in learning tasks that will enhance their learning.
A natural progression to ensure that innovations we make in writing practices are having an impact and enhancing writing, is to use the widely recognised 'Teaching as inquiry' as documented with the NZ curriculum framework.
By looking at innovation via this inquiry process you will automatically be up-skilling yourself, and working towards Our Code Our Standard, and ensuring that your innovation is having a positive impact. It will also work to support your school's current appraisal process.
Inquiries can be small and achievable within 2-4 weeks, or larger and cover an entire term, year or even longer. As you will see from the MOE diagram embedded below the inquiry process is cyclic in nature. Many inquiries will undergo a number of cycles and evolve each time. This only makes the end result more robust, evidence based and focused on the learner and enhancing their learning.
To the right is a template that may help to help you to document your inquiry process following the MOE Teaching as Inquiry model below.
