Assignment Types

Quizzes: Each overarching topic will have a multiple choice quiz to be taken outside of class almost each week. Due dates and access to quizzes will be posted on Google Classroom. It is expected that you complete the reading assignments, and use the resources you have available to take these quizzes. 


Reading Quizzes: Reading assignments will be given on a variable basis. Students are expected to take notes over the readings. For these in-class Reading Quizzes, students will be allowed to use their reading notes.


Document Analysis: In class and outside of class readings concerning primary and secondary documents. It is expected that students understand and analyze historical context, audience, point of view, and purpose of the written resource.  Assignments will vary and require both written and online assignments. 


Writing Assignments and Projects:  Students will complete formal writing over historical content and/or historical analysis, and complete projects involving the use of both primary and secondary documents. These may be document-based questions or other essential historical questions. 


History Talks: Students will be required to complete short presentations on various historical topics throughout both semesters. 


Class Assignments: Students will complete periodic assignments, which may include additional worksheets, internet forums, document reading and analysis, group activities or individual presentations. 


Exams: There will be several examinations over the course of the semester over a chapter or series of chapters as the instructor sees fit. Semester finals will be comprehensive for each separate semester. 


Participation: Over the course of the semester, there will be opportunities for class discussion, hands-on activities and group work. If you have excessive absences (excused or unexcused) or are not ready to contribute positively to class you will be docked points based on the instructor’s discretion.
