Much like others taking this course, I'd like to learn way more about tree species and plant species than I already do. I think that people now adays don't appreciate what the land does for us enough and we act like we can do whatever we want such as littering, disrupting natural habitats, and cutting down trees to build factories. We as people need to become less ignorant on how we're disrupting habitats. Green-Up day is a good way to help our environment even though not a lot of people do it, it's still helping the environment little by little. We need to cherish what we have and be grateful for how the environment has helped us throughout history.
I have worked to build connections and knowledge of the world around me, by spending time outside, talking to my Mom about science, and reading books about the land and the species around us. I've noticed how animals such as deer, moose, fox, etc. have built their habitat in nature. I've learned about how they navigate through life and are able to keep existing even though humans have polluted this Earth. I think that my connection has grown stronger as I've beeng growing older as I'm now curious about the land around me. This summer, I've asked to go on more hikes with my Mom, asking her about the species of trees and plants on the way up and on the way down in case we had missed any. People have told me that I've been growing up to be exactly like my Mom, who went to school to get a degree in Natural and Environmental sciences, and I think that I have definitely followed in her footsteps.
In all actuality, we need to learn how to love and respect our land so that we're able to have less animals going extinct, less pollution on our Earth. Heavy downpours have washed away so many habitats in the last few years that it's ruining some of the land around us. There have started to be more invasive plants and insects and diseases which isn't good for us, or for animals. If people paid more attention to the health of the environment lots of things would be definitely better. Pollution is one of our problems and if we just tried, just like California is doing in every state, we could most likely help the animals that had inhabited the Earth before us. I hope that as I grow older, I'm able to help and back up anyone who is trying to help our environment so kids don't have to grow up living in a polluted world. If we're able to build habitat friendly homes, get rid of a lot of factories, and have cities not build as many buildings, I think we could create an animal friendly space where they can inhabit almost anwhere they desire. If we take the steps to bettering the Earth, I feel as if it would be better for the human race.
