Learner Needs: A state is overhauling the training program for child protective services (CPS). In this new training approach, a team of instructional designers, which includes me, deconstructed the training into several distinct segments. Our particular segment, titled "In the Community," focuses on the practical application of skills that CPS workers acquire in other parts of the training. We aimed to create an interactive activity that goes beyond a mere checklist, ensuring that CPS workers are actively and engagingly involved in utilizing the skills they've learned.
Design Solution: In order to actively involve CPS workers and enhance their comprehension of the extensive array of material they need to grasp, we decided to take their required tasks and create a "scavenger hunt" activity. The initial scavenger hunt deck, featured here, serves as the starting point for incorporating this approach into their training sessions.
