New Stories!
With the OHS track team heading to state, we wanted to share some interviews collected by senior reporter Donavynn Southall.
Jack Klamm: Jack said he joined the track team after participating in cross country in the fall, where he wanted to prove to both himself and others that he was capable of competing in a sport. If he could try another event, he would choose the 4x100 relay. He joined track in the spring of 2025 and currently competes in long jump and triple jump.
Adryanna Barker: Adryanna explained that she joined track because she wanted to try something new. If she had the chance to compete in another event, she would pick long jump. This is her first year participating in track.
Alivia Davis: Alivia shared that she joined track because she missed the sport and wanted to prove to a former coach that she could succeed in an event they doubted her in. She would like to try a relay team or focus more on javelin if given the chance. She previously competed in middle school and joined Odessa track her sophomore year. She currently participates in pole vault and occasionally practices javelin.
Elaina Logan: Elaina said she joined track because she enjoyed it in middle school and wanted to continue with her friends. If she could try another event, she would consider the 800m or pole vault. She started track in 7th grade and now competes in triple jump for varsity, occasionally long jump, and runs in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays for JV, along with the 100m hurdles.
Trinity Halford: Trinity joined track to meet new people and improve athletically. She noted that track helps increase speed and benefits other sports. If she could try another event, she would choose the 4x100 relay because of the team aspect. She joined in 8th grade and competes in high jump and long jump for varsity, along with JV hurdles.
Izebelle Barker: Izebelle said she joined track to branch out and try something different from her usual sport. If she could add another event, she would choose the 4x200 relay. This is her first year in track, and she competes in the 4x100 relay, 100m dash, and 200m dash.
Hayden Ponak: Hayden shared that he joined track to be around friends and try something new. If he could compete in another event, he would choose high jump or pole vault. This is his first year on the team, and he participates in the 400m, 200m, and 4x400 relay.
IN FOCUS
Odessa High School celebrated the last days of the 25-26 school year in a style all thier own. Students displayed their artwork in the art show, before stripping the walls bare in preparation for a much needed break.
Student council organized dressup days for staff and students to help bring laughs and destress from final tests and goodbyes.
25-26 has been a joyous rollarcoaster, but it is time to get off the ride and prepare for the next journey. The Growler staff wishes everyone a safe and happy summer!
Class of 2027 celebrated their senior sunrise with smiles and style.
Senior Sunrise is a tradition at OHS that kicks off senior year for the next class. This year's upcoming seniors showed up for donuts and were surprised by music and senior sunglass provided by class leadership.
Between games of hacky sack and capturing the official first memories of their senior year, Class of 2027 spent their morning soaking in the rays of a new beginning.
Class of 2026 enjoyed their senior sunset on the football field as the weather cooperated this year.
Pizza 451 and Lego:Batman Movie were the entertainment focal points for the evening as students settled in for a final moment together at OHS before graduation. Never to be outdone, seniors did not settle for mere blankets on the field. Air mattresses and a variety of lawn chairs made their way down-some balanced precariously on top of student vehicles.
A huge thank you to Pizza 451 for feeding our seniors all the pizza they could eat and Evan Pingel, OHS social studies, for helping chaperone the event.
Class of 2026 left their mark on OHS in many ways seen and felt.
The few moments captured from graduation cannot fully convey the vivacious nature of these young adults or the potential they hold.
Growler staff wish them the best of luck in all of their future endeavors and will greatly miss hide and seek in the journalism office/dark room, caught'em photo stories, and so much more.
