Two people are at a medical clinic. One of them is feeling nauseous after falling at the skating rink. The doctor is saying that they will get details so that they can start a recovery plan.
In Module 2, you learned that you must address concussions as quickly as possible. If you do not treat your symptoms right away, it is possible for your concussion symptoms to be more severe or for recovery to take longer than necessary.
This is why hospitals and schools have Return to School Protocols and plans in place for individuals who have been concussed. These protocols are like a plan for concussed individuals to follow in order to return to full activity without aggravating or worsening their concussion symptoms.
Below are the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario's (CHEO) Return to Activity and Return to School protocols. You will see that there is a slow ramping up of activities toward full return. The length of time that this takes can vary from person to person.
Things to consider:
What is the goal of Return to School or Return to Activity Protocols?
Record your answer in your Student Workbook.
