Students have been working on citing evidence from texts, producing clear and coherent writing, vocabulary, plot elements, and character traits during small-group and whole-group collaborative discussions with short stories and informational texts. Students will keep strengthening community and honoring the PACK agreements.
7th graders are mastering ratios and proportional relationships. They can identify proportional relationships using ratio tables and graphs, find the constant unit rate using the formula
K=Y/X and apply the equation to Y = KX to solve real-world problems.
Students have jumped right into chemistry, and have been studying the periodic table. Students are exploring the fascinating world of atoms and the history of the periodic table. They develop Bohr models and investigate the periodic table, learning about the contributing scientists of the atomic theory and the organization of elements into groups with distinct names and characteristics. We will also delve into the physical properties of matter, including atomic number and mass, and how they relate to the arrangement of atoms and molecules. Furthermore, students will explore the concept of isotopes, understanding how variations in the number of neutrons affect the stability and properties of atoms. Through activities and hands-on experiments, students are building a solid foundation in atomic theory, the periodic table, and the properties of matter.
7th grade has been learning about the cause and effect of specific historical events through the lens of Africa! Our current guiding question is: How did the Atlantic Slave Trade affect Africa? Students are learning to answer this question by examining the cause and effect of the Slave Trade and how it left Africa open to colonization (our next portion of the unit!).
Essential standards:
Explain the following about specific events:
Causes
Effects
How they are reflected in our lives today.
I can develop a claim.
I can identify evidence that supports a specific claim.
