Albany Community School Highlights
Happy February! Some highlights:
Students have been hard at work on their academics and making growth in all of their subjects! Woo hoo!
8th graders visited the Vermont State Capitol as part of their U.S. Government unit in social studies. Students participated in a mock trial at the Vermont Supreme Court, taking on the roles of justices, lawyers, appellants, and appellees. They also explored the Vermont History Museum and toured the State House, where they had a chance run in and discussion with our representative, Leanne Harple.
Students have been having a blast at Jay Peak building their snowboarding and skiing skills!
Announcements and upcoming events:
The 8th graders are doing a bottle drive to fundraise for their trip to Washington D.C. If you have any bottles or cans, feel free to drop them off at the school in the bottle drive bin (it's red!).
8th Graders are selling Calendar Raffle tickets to fundraise for their trip. 1 ticket for $5 or 5 for $20 -- you don't want to miss out on these goodies!

Our 8th grade student got 2nd place in the district-wide Spelling Bee!
A Special Message from our new music teacher, Mr. Dan!
I am truly delighted to be part of Albany Community School, and I couldn’t be prouder of the students I work with each day. I know I can be a bit rough around the edges, but I genuinely enjoy seeing every one of you walk through the door. Starting in the middle of the school year can feel intimidating for both students and teachers, yet together we’ve already begun to find our rhythm.
Over the past few weeks, you’ve taken on everything from music theory to beat‑boxing flutes to the powerful sounds of Beethoven, and I’ve watched real understanding start to take shape. Music isn’t always easy, but it can absolutely be fun, creative, and even a little silly—and that’s when the magic happens.
I’m excited for what’s ahead. I believe Albany Community School is on its way to having one of the strongest middle school bands and choirs in the area. Band and choir will officially begin after the February break, and I encourage both new and experienced musicians to join us. If you’re curious about either program or interested in learning a new instrument, I’d love to hear from you.
Sincerely, Mr. Dan, the Music Man
