The Learning Commons (formerly known as the Library or Room 214) has many print and digital resources along with technology such as Chromebooks, Desktop Computers, iPads and VR goggles for student and staff use.
Students are invited to explore the Learning Commons during open hours and enjoy its opportunities.

Please note that there will be times when the Learning Commons is closed for events and meetings. Notices will be posted on the Learning Commons main entrance doors.
Student Use:
All students, with the exception of Seniors on spare, require a note from their teacher to be in the Learning Commons during class time. Admission to the Learning Commons during class time is subject to the availability of computers and seating space. Students are asked to present the note to the Learning Commons staff upon entering.
Lunch Times :
Grades 7 and 8 students must provide a Learning Common Lunch green pass (obtained from their homeroom teacher) when entering the LC at lunch time. Maximum 50 passes per lunch.
High School students must provide a Learning Common Lunch purple pass (obtained from the LC before homeroom ) when entering the LC at lunch time. Maximum 50 passes per lunch.
Printing
Computer printouts are 10 cents per page. Printing can only be done from the Desktop Computers in black ink only.
Orientation:
All Grade 7 students will complete an orientation period with their English classes in September . New grade 9 -12 students may visit the Learning Commons before or after school or during the lunch hour to learn more about the Learning Commons and the use of the study areas, print resources and technology.
Learning Commons Protocol: •
Backpacks are not permitted in the Learning Commons (as per the School's Code of Conduct where all Backpacks are to be in the student's locker).
Food or drinks are not permitted in the Learning Commons. Water bottles are permitted.
Students are not to move furniture
Loan periods are not restricted to rigid time limits for staff. However please return any materials when no longer needed to help others.
When returning items, please place them in the Return Slot at the front of the Circulation counter. All items must be returned at the end of the school year.
Professional Resources:
Materials related to curriculum, teaching development and aids, Board documents and other professional items are located in the Teacher Work & Resource Room in the Learning Commons. You are invited to browse and borrow items in this area at any time.
Research Materials
Whenever possible, please notify us of research needs in advance of topic assignment so we may properly prepared these resources before your visit to the Learning Commons.
Overdue/Fine Notice Reports
Notices will be issued monthly to Homeroom teachers. Teachers please ensure that students listed are aware of their status. Learning Commons privileges may be revoked until accounts are settled. Fines are $ .20 per book per school day. If a book has been lost or damaged beyond repair the student will be charged the full replacement cost. If there are any questions or concerns of students, please direct students to the Learning Commons. Please notify us of any inaccuracies (wrong Homeroom, retired students, etc).
At the beginning of each school year, students receive a new school photo id card which includes a library system barcode. Students may use last year’s card for loans until they receive their new card in October.
Borrowing from the Library:
To borrow materials please bring them to the circulation desk with your school id card. A date due card will be placed in the pocket of the item. Please check this date to ensure you return borrowed items on time. Materials to be returned are put in the book return slot in the counter by the entrance.
Loans:
2 week loan for General Collection. iPADS and Chromebooks can only be used in the Learning Commons (students must have student id card).
Fines:
Charges are levied for overdue/damaged/lost materials. $0.20 per day per item on overdue materials. Full replacement cost of lost materials. Overdue reports will be given to Homeroom teachers on a weekly basis.
All Grades
Homework Club (every Wednesday from 2:15 to 3:30 p.m.) All students in Grades 7 to 12 are invited to join us in the Learning Commons fro homework support. Teachers will be available to answer your questions. Google Help is also available (Google Slide presentations, documents, spreadsheets, forms, etc).
