Pursuing an apprenticeship can be a pathway to a rewarding career in the trades. As an apprentice, you can take classes and learn your trade by working under the direction of experienced workers—and get paid while you do it.
Find out how to qualify, find a sponsor or employer to hire you, or get money or grants to help you pay for apprenticeship training and tools
Indigenous students are offered a Pre-Apprenticeship Training Session for the OETIO (Operating Engineers Training Institute of Ontario) apprenticeship exam. Upon completion of the trade entrance exam, participants need to successfully pass the trade entrance exam with 70% or higher to proceed to the next level, which is the Pre-Apprenticeship program. OSAP
For college and university programs, including those offered in partnership with Indigenous Institutes, you may be eligible to receive funding from OSAP.
Indigenous Student Bursary
This bursary provides aid to self-identified Indigenous students with financial need who are attending a publicly assisted college, university or Indigenous Institute in Ontario. The bursary is distributed by each institution’s Financial Aid Office or Registrar. Contact your institution for information on how to apply.
Indigenous Bursaries
A website with a searchable list of bursaries, scholarships and incentives for Indigenous students.
Indspire
A national Indigenous-led registered charity that invests in the education of Indigenous people for the long-term benefit of these individuals, their families and communities, and Canada. Indspire provides scholarships, bursaries and awards to Indigenous students.
Funding for Métis students enrolled in postsecondary education. Apply for this funding through the financial aid office, Indigenous student liaison centre or student support services at your college or university.
