This provides assessment of the students’ rehearsal skills as ensemble musicians and their understanding of musical concepts from music being rehearsed and studied (through written responses and projects).
Instrument care and responsibility.
Rehearsal preparedness (materials, etc.)
Posture and instrumental/singing technique.
Reading and marking music as directed.
Contributing to the group sound by staying on task.
Meeting expectations for respect and cooperation.
Completion of written work focused on musical concepts.
Proper rehearsal technique is extremely important in a large ensemble such as the Bands & Choirs at EMS. The Band / Choir needs to work together as a team, and each member contributes to its success. Students need to always come prepared and do their best work during rehearsals.
Journal entries and projects may be assigned in rehearsals. Looking past the notes on the page is essential to accessing the heart of the composition and becoming a well rounded musician. Projects and journal entries will focus on student & ensemble goal setting, composer intent, compositional techniques, historical context of pieces, and a variety of enriching topics.
