Tech Tools for Learning

By no means an exhaustive list.
These are some of my faves or cool tools I've heard of, but have yet to play with.
Check your school board's list of vetted & approved apps/sites before using any of the tools below.

Want help with any of the technology or pedagogy mentioned below? Email me, or drop by the library, and we can do some co-planning together or just brainstorm ideas for you!

Can be used in any subject area:

Create text files (like Word). Files accessible from any device, and easy to share with peers & teacher. Use comment features to help with peer-editing & teacher feedback. Can search for images that are creative commons license to use in doc.

Create slide shows (like PowerPoint). Files accessible from any device, and easy to share with peers & teacher. Use comment features to help with peer-editing & teacher feedback. Can search for images that are creative commons license to use in doc.

Give each student or group their own slide in the deck to create a common workspace & virtual gallery walk. Slides can be pre-loaded with text boxes or icons for students to use in their work.

Can be used to create books too.

Create spreadsheets (like Excel). Easy to share & collaborate. Collect & organize data. Create graphs to visualise your data. Automate calculations.

Accessible from any device and easy to share with peers & teacher. Use comment features to help with peer-editing & teacher feedback.

Use a form to create a survey & open the responses in a Sheet!

Like a 1-slide version of Slides. Create interactive graphics, posters, infographics, graphic organizers, flow charts, annotated diagrams/images, etc.

Easy to share with peers & teacher. Use comment features to help with peer-editing & teacher feedback.

Make a web-site. Can be private or public (I recommend public so students create for a real audience). THIS IS A GOOGLE SITE. Easy website creation with drag & drop elements. No coding required. Easy to collaborate with peers. Publish your work for the world to see.

A collaborative whiteboard tool. Can create multiple slides in a jamboard (for students or groups to work separately). Can be pre-loaded with text and images. Students can use a touch screen or mouse to write on their board.

Create a slide deck in Google Slides or Powerpoint & then use Pear Deck to add interactive elements to your slides. Prompt your students with questions and they can respond by typing, drawing, dragging icons, and choosing from multiple choices. Project student responses anonymously to the screen. Hear from every student in the room (student voice!) & keep them engaged with the material.

Multiple-choice quizzes students play as a class. Build your own or use games built by other users; search by topic. You can even have students create their own Kahoots as review or to accompany a presentation they give to the class.

Chrome extension that provides text to speech, talking & picture dictionaries, translator,  word prediction, voice dictation, highlighting, etc for Google Docs & Slides.

A Chrome extension that creates a video recording of your screen including audio & video of your face as you speak as well if you wish. Great way for students to present a slide deck & narrate over top to save as a video.

Create graphics and videos. Students can build a simple slideshow within the software & narrate over each slide to create a video version.

Have students create videos for a real audience!

Students post videos they've made to their OCDSB YouTube channel. Make sure it's publicly listed. Assign student to watch each other's videos & leave comments below each video (questions, reflections, connections, etc).

Put everyone's videos together into a playlist to find them all in one easy spot & post to your LMS.

Create interactive videos. Students watch a video & it pauses along the way to ask them questions to which they respond. Use videos you've made or ones you've found online.

Post a prompt & students create video responses. Students can view & comment on each other's video posts. Grids can be password protected.

A virtual bulletin board. Post text, images, video, links, etc.. Collaborate & share.

Create interactive activities (student responses & games) from your slide decks, PDFs, or videos. Live or student-paced lessons. Overview.

Turn PDFs or Images of your handouts into interactive online worksheets. Overview.

Create assignments that allow you to watch your students work on them in real time and provide real-time feedback. Overview.

Find and create gamified quizzes, lessons, presentations, and flashcards.

Do you have suggestions of tech tools that are invaluable in your classroom?

I'm looking for tools/sites that can be used throughout your course & not just for a particular topic or lesson. They also must be tools your students will interact with in some way (not just resources a teacher uses to plan their lessons). Thanks!
