“The more connections we acknowledge, the more we care. Most of us have a very diverse community of people and this is our strength.”
- Linda Savage
This module had a focus on community connections & partnerships. I really enjoyed the first task which was to interview a community member about their leadership. The community that I teach in is quite diverse and so I connected with someone who identifies as part of a marginalized group themselves and also active in the community space to work towards safer spaces for marginalized youth. I was excited to bring this community member's thoughts to our class as it seemed to me there was a lack of diverse voices (beyond diversity of career areas) in the leaders chosen by my colleagues. I think it's important to hear from a Muslim woman looking to empower Muslim girls, non-binary folks and LGBTQ2+ youth.
Pear Deck is an add-on for Google Slides or Powerpoint. It allows you to make your slides interactive so that students respond to your prompts. This means you can hear from every student in the room for true student voice. Student responses can be projected to the class anonymously. There are various response types: multiple choice, text, number, drawing & draggables.
