Beginning fluency for the group was 22.9%. This means that as a group the students knew 22.9% of their math facts fluently.
At the conclusion of the Green Light Challenge, the group fluency has increased to 55.4%. Indicating the group now knows 55.4% of their math facts fluently.
This represents an improvement of 32.5%.
The usage to fluency relationship is clear: More usage results in greater fluency gain.
Towards the end of March, usage and fluency rose minimally. This coincided with two events.
Student specific data was shared with parents along with a request for parents to support and encourage the use of Reflex at home.
The Junior Green Light Challenge was announced. It began April 1, 2021.
From the earliest data grab on October 9, 2020 to March 16, 2021 (5 months) this group gained 1168 fluent facts. This translates to an average gain of 49 facts per student. Of the possible 325 math facts, the equates to a fluency gain of 15% per student over a 5 month period (50% of the school year).
From March 17, 2021 to May 7, 2021 (the conclusion of the Green Light Challenge), the group had gained an additional 665 fluent facts. This translates to an average gain of 28 facts per student. Of the possible 325 math facts, the equates to a fluency gain of 9% per student over a six week period (15% of the school year).
Lower usage accounts for the minimal increase in fluency gain. In this group, 84% of students used Reflex less than the recommended 3x per week.

The amount students practice their math skills directly impacts their achievement.
Parental support of practice at home and an ongoing school based focus on math facts result in increased fluency.
Fact fluency leads to an overall increase in achievement in Mathematics and also leads to a decrease in anxiety often seen associated with Mathematics.
