Beginning fluency for the group was 4.9%. This means that as a group the students knew 4.9% of their math facts fluently.
At the conclusion of the Green Light Challenge, the group fluency has increased to 29.6%. Indicating the group now knows 24.7% of their math facts fluently.
This represents an improvement of 24.7%.
The usage to fluency relationship is clear. Towards the end of February, usage and fluency rose dramatically. This coincided with two events:
Student specific data was shared with parents along with a request for parents to support and encourage the use of Reflex at home.
The Primary Green Light Challenge was announced. It began March 1, 2021.
From the earliest data grab on October 1, 2020 to March 1, 2021 (5 months) this group gained 707 fluent facts. This translates to an average gain of 35 facts per student. Of the possible 242 addition and subtraction math facts, the equates to a fluency gain of 14% per student over a 5 month period (50% of the school year).
From March 1, 2021 to March 31, 2021 (the conclusion of the Green Light Challenge), the group had gained an additional 553 fluent facts. This translates to an average gain of 28 facts per student. Of the possible 242 math facts, the equates to a fluency gain of 12% per student over a four week period (15% of the school year).
During this 4 week period, the students almost doubled the number of facts they had gained over the previous 5 months.

The amount students practice their math skills directly impacts their achievement.
Parental support of practice at home and an ongoing school-based focus on math facts result in increased fluency.
Fact fluency leads to an overall increase in achievement in Mathematics and also leads to a decrease in anxiety often seen associated with Mathematics.
