A day in kindergarten is busy and fun. The program is play-based which means concepts are taught through play in ways that are fun and engaging to young minds. Students interests will inspire and be incorporated into the curriculum.
Our educator teams are made up of Ontario Certified Teachers (OCT) and Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECE).
In the OCDSB kindergarten classes spend half their time in English and half in French. This year at Mutchmor students will have one week of predominantly French education with a French OCT and the following week of English instruction with an English OCT. The ECEs will remain the same week to week.
All of our kindergarten classes are a mixture of junior and senior kindergarten (year one and year two). This allows the younger students to learn from their peers and the older student to take on some leadership.
Kindergarten is a two-year bilingual program consisting of 50% English instruction and 50% French instruction with JK and SK students combined in each class. Classes will follow an alternating week by week schedule with students learning in English one week followed by French learning the next week.

Each class will follow a slightly different schedule based on the needs of the class and educator schedules. Some classes go outside in the middle of the day and others go out for a longer time at the end of the day. Some classes do a quiet activity when they are done eating and others will do something active like dancing and yoga.
All kindergarten classes start their day with about 30 minutes of outdoor learning and play. Please send your child to school ready to be outside.
