Module Introduction - Due Dates at the Bottom of the Page
Health and safety in the workplace is a joint responsibility among managers, supervisors, employers, and workers. As a young worker, it is important for you to know both your rights and your responsibilities. To ensure the physical and personal well-being of students, students must demonstrate the following prior to placement:
an understanding of workplace health and safety rules;
the appropriate use of safety equipment;
an understanding of the need for personal protective equipment, including goggles, gloves, boots, and aprons;
an understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act;
the correct handling of materials and equipment as specified in the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS) training program;
un understanding of workplace violence and harassment; and
Be sure to read through all the parts of the module in order to assist you with successful completion of the activities and tasks. The activities will provide some background information and resources to help you complete the tasks. All work has been prepared using Google Apps.

Task 3: Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training/Certification
The Occupational Health and Safety Awareness Training provides a basic understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA). It does not replace specific sector, hazard specific, or competency training that would be provided at individual work organizations.
Please use the Google Chrome browser to access the training.
You will receive a “Proof of completion” certificate once you complete the training. You must either take a screen shot of the certificate and paste it into a new document in your Module 1 Coop folder or save and print off a copy of your certificate before you exit the module and submit it to your teacher. Print off an extra copy for yourself. The Ministry of Labour, Training, and Development does not store your certificate or keep a record of your training.
Once you have read through the instructions and the training module begins, you may click on the play audio button to have it read outlook to you.
Go to the Worker Health and Safety link to complete your virtual training/certification OR
You may complete this training manually using the Worker Health and Safety Awareness Booklet, but the booklet must be printed off, completed, and signed to serve as a record of your training.
Task 4: Virtual WHMIS - Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System
Read the instructions below first and then go to:
Virtual WHMIS to complete your WHMIS training.
Enter your assigned PIN/Username that was emailed to you by your teacher. Check your junk email in case it did not send to your regular inbox.
Enter your assigned password.
Complete the training and test. You will have to repeat the training and test until you score 100%.
Make a PDF copy of your certificate when you are done and submit it to your teacher. You may also take a screen shot of your certificate and place it into your Module 1 folder. Print an extra copy for yourself.
Task 5 - Human Rights and Workplace Violence and Harassment OCDSB Training Course
5A. Workplace Violence and Harassment OCDSB Training Course
Everyone should be able to work in a safe and healthy workplace. The Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) sets out the rights and duties of all those who have a role in dealing with workplace violence and workplace harassment, including employees, supervisors, managers, with the employer usually through senior management, having the greatest burden of responsibility with respect to health and safety in the workplace.
The harassing or violent individual may be a co-worker, supervisor, someone from management, a customer, client, volunteer, patient, student, stranger entering the workplace or even a domestic/intimate partner of an employee entering the workplace and is violent toward an employee or employees.
Complete the Violence and Harassment in the Workplace Certification Registration
Click HERE and then click on Register at the top right of the page. Fill in the information requested and for company name use Cairine Wilson and its contact details. For the position, type, student.
Once you are registered, search for the Violence and Harassment training course. It is free. You will add it to the cart and follow the instructions to access and begin it.
Be sure to save a picture of the certificate of completion in your Module 1 folder once you are done.

Task 8: Fall Protection or Working From Heights Course
If your placement is on a construction site or with any other trade, except auto mechanics, where you could be using a ladder or working from heights, you will need to attend and complete a full day Working From Heights course prior to starting your placement.
