  • Register on School Cash Online within the dates below.

  • Contests will begin at 2:45PM and will be written in B017, the Little Theatre, here at Merivale.

  • Bring pencil and calculator

Contest Information

Below are brief descriptions regarding the math contests. Each contest title includes a link to the University of Waterloo for more information.

Canadian Intermediate/Senior Math Competition

    • Two separate competitions. Students may only participate in one.

      • Intermediate - CIMC - Designed for grade 9 content - Grade 9 and 10 students only

      • Senior - CSMC - Designed for Grade 11 content - Grade 9 - 12 may participate.

    • $16 - cost covers contest fees and shipping cost

    • 2 hours

    • 9 questions; 6 are answer only and 3 are full solution

    • Score out of 60

    • Marks are awarded for completeness, clarity, and style of presentation. A correct solution, poorly presented, will not earn full marks.

    • Written by individuals on paper


Pascal, Cayley, Fermat Competition

  • Students in Grade 9 or below are eligible to write the Pascal Contest.

  • Students in Grade 10 or below are eligible to write the Cayley Contest.

  • Students in Grade 11 or below are eligible to write the Fermat Contest.

  • 25 multiple-choice questions

  • 3 parts

    • Parts A and B follow a traditional multiple-choice format where the answer is A, B, C, D or E.

    • In Part C, participants select a whole number from 0 to 99.

  • 60 minutes

  • Score out of 150


Euclid

  • Designed for grade 12 but is open to students at all grade 11

  • 10 questions; some answer only and some full-solution

  • 2.5 hours

  • Score out of 100

  • Marks are awarded for completeness, clarity and style of presentation. A correct solution, poorly presented, will not earn full marks.

  • Written by individuals on paper


Fryer/Galois/Hypatia

  • Students in Grade 9 or below are eligible to write the Fryer Contest.

  • Students in Grade 10 or below are eligible to write the Galois Contest.

  • Students in Grade 11 or below are eligible to write the Hypatia Contest.

  • 4 questions; some answer only and some full-solution

  • 75 minutes

  • Score out of 40

  • Written by individuals on paper
