During this course students will learn about the origins of photography. They will study both the scientific and historical aspects and will examine the work of various photographers from a variety of genres. They will learn the fundamentals of digital photography and how to apply digital image editing software. They will employ creative ideas, compositional aesthetics and technical skills to create interesting compositions. Students will also become familiar with photo manipulation techniques and basic image animation.

This course further builds on established technological and design skills and introduces a number of advanced photographic approaches and techniques along with a digital video component. Students will learn how to apply compositional theory to improve their images while also gaining more skills with the computer manipulation software to enhance and modify their work for artistic effect.
In Grade 12 course the emphasis is on the development of a professional portfolio. Students will be introduced to various career opportunities in the photographic field and will study commercial photography applications.
This course fully prepares students for post secondary study in the creative arts or use of photographic and artistic skills in various careers.
