Consumer Design/Graphic Design is the creative planning and execution of visual communication. Graphic designers use a combination of shapes and forms, words and images to communicate ideas or concepts visually to others. In this introductory course, students are introduced to a wide variety of graphic design tools and techniques. Most projects in this course will be done using traditional art materials.

This course takes place in the design computer lab. Work assigned to students enrolled in the senior design class will be similar to those faced by free-lance graphic designers and advertising agencies. Students will build upon their design knowledge gained in the previous course while using Adobe design software (industry standard software).
Studio work will emphasize typographical skills, focus on layout and design, digital illustration, develop a familiarity with aspects of electronic publishing, printing technologies, corporate design and a survey of Canadian and American graphic designers who have made significant contributions to the field.
Upon completion of the senior graphic design courses, each student will have sufficient works for an entrance portfolio to a post secondary applied design program.
