About Madame Smith

I am very excited to be teaching at Kanata Highlands in grade 1. I will be teaching your child French, Social Studies and Science, the Arts (visual, dramatic , music, dance), as well as Physical Education and Health. Students in grade 1 do not receive English instruction but they do receive their math instruction in English. This will be taught by Mrs Gervais.

This is a different year but I sure that it will be filled with inquisitive questions, outdoor learning, out-of-the box thinking and fun times in the classroom!

A bit about me

The pictures on the side tell you a bit of my story.

I am originally from North-Western Québec, a city called Rouyn-Noranda. I have been in the Ottawa area for 16 years but my husband I go back to my hometown area every summer to spend time at our cottage. This is my 17th year of teaching. I received my education at l’Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue. I have taught all grades between Kindergarten and grade 5 and have been a Learning Support Teacher. I love teaching and learning and am constantly looking for new ways to make my classroom a great place to be. I believe that an active body encourages the mind to be active therefore I integrate physical activity in many areas of learning.

Here a few of my favourite things

Reading, red shoes, cottaging, sunflowers, yoga, dogs (particularly my dog, Grover), trying new healthy recipes, colouring, being outdoors
