Grade 9 Mathematics is a compulsory course.
There are two options:
The new destreamed Grade 9 Mathematics course (MTH1W)
The Locally Developed mathematics course (MAT1L)
This is the option that most students will select for their grade 9 math course.
The course will be designed to meet the needs of all learners, using a variety of different learning and assessment styles.
This course leads to the new destreamed grade 10 course.

This is course is designed to meet the needs of students who need to continue to develop their foundational math skills.
This course is especially important for those students who have followed a modified curriculum in grades 6-8 and need to bridge the gap into the MTH1W course.
The course will be tailored to the individual student’s needs, with a focus on basic numeracy skill development.
After this course, students can either transition into the MTH1W course or continue into the grade 10 locally developed course and the Workplace level.
