Last half term our year 10 GCSE Geographers were meant to be going on a fieldtrip to Brighton to conduct a geographical enquiry about ‘quality of life’- a crucial element of their GCSE Geography exams. Sadly, lockdown meant me were unable to go. However – undeterred we found a way around it – we weren’t about to let lockdown get in the way! Instead, our year 10 Geographers took part in a virtual fieldtrip run by the Field Studies Council where they joined a ‘live’ webcast and were able to conduct a geographical enquiry – from the comfort of their own homes. Below is some work by Emelia before and during her ‘virtual’ fieldwork.

Friday 8th May marked the 75th anniversary of VE Day, commemorating the end of six years of war in Europe and the defeat of Nazi Germany. We were sorry not to be in school to mark this event as a community and across the country many of the celebrations looked a little different this year. Thank you to all our students who got involved in our VE Day Google Classroom; we hope you enjoyed the links and activities. Particular congratulations to Zoe Grant and Louie Brady in Year 7 and Amy Thompson in Year 10 for their contributions: we look forward to bringing our students' work together once we are back in school. The marking of important historical anniversaries is a time for reflection and at this current time, I feel it is a poignant reminder that even the most terrible world events come to an end and that there is light at the end of the tunnel. In the words of Vera Lynn in her 1943 song, 'We'll meet again'!

Thank you to all students in Years 7- 10 who have continued to submit their fantastic work to their history teachers. We have been very impressed by the quality of work students are producing at home and it has been a pleasure to read. We miss teaching you in the classroom and look forward to seeing you back in our history lessons again soon. Well done to our students who have taken part in the ‘History- Just for Fun’, VE Day and Dunkirk anniversary classrooms too and we hope you have enjoyed them.
