The Oathall House Reading Challenge
The Oathall House Reading Challenge is set to be another successful competition. The English Faculty has been impressed with the number of students emailing about books they have been reading, AR quizzes they are taking from home, and the challenge boxes that they have ticked off already. Students have enjoyed following a blog, listening to audio books, and reading in their garden - amongst the other choices. The challenge extends to Oathall staff as well. It remains to be seen if student entries will outnumber Oathall staff.

After learning about Dickens’ world and words for the Spring term, Year 7 students finished the unit by stepping back into the Victorian era to create newspaper articles about workhouses. Not only did our students convey important information about workhouses, but they also designed articles representative of the time. It’s clear that Oathall has a lot of budding journalists!

Hyenas have their laugh,
Panthers have their stalk,
Elephants have their memory,
Tigers have their camouflage,
What do we have?
Pigs have their brains,
Hippos have their bite,
Snakes have their venom,
Monkeys have their swing,
What do we have?
Orangutans have their strength,
Kangaroos have their pouches,
Frogs have their jump,
Cheetahs have their speed,
What do we have?
Birds have their flight,
Lions have their roar,
Owls have their wits,
Wolves have their howl,
We have an imagination!
