Oathall has always been committed to the wellbeing of its staff and students. However, over the past year we have been working hard to get our community openly talking about wellbeing and understanding how to support each other. Since the return of students in September lots of support has been put in place to ensure the wellbeing of our students.
We have three large displays around the school which explain the difference and the link between wellbeing and mental health. These have also been printed and put up in tutor bases around the school. We have a variety of wellbeing tutor time activities that have been shared with tutors and will be used for discussions throughout the year.
World Mental health day was on the 10th October, this was publicised on our electronic screens and the tutor time resource for this was based on change. This allowed students to talk about how to deal with change, especially with all of the changes that have taken place as a result of Covid-19.
We have had a wellbeing student network running for a couple of years now. This has been restructured this half term so we now have at least two well being representatives in each tutor group. These members of the network will receive training to help them support their peers. This is a big responsibility but we are very proud to have students supporting each other and working alongside our staff.
We have lots of online support now too, we have a section dedicated to wellbeing on our website and google classrooms for students to join and access resources. We also ensure our staff have lots of shared information and support for both their mental health and for supporting our students.
Together we are working hard to ensure everyone is able to talk about their mental health and to support our communities wellbeing as much as we can.
