RE & PD

Year 10 and 11 have coped really well with such turbulent times. In PD during lockdown, Year 10 and 11 had remote lessons about relationships and how to form healthy ones. Since their return to school, Year 10 have had lessons about British Values, work and careers and will finish the year looking at beliefs and ethics. Year 11 have focussed on their study skills, careers education and revision for their assessments this year. These lessons have been taught with the hope that they will bring them ideas, strategies and useful information to take them on their next exciting steps along their life paths. Year 10 also had a visit from the Police and were given a talk from our school’s police liaison officer called ‘Sex and the Law’. This informed students about the legal issues around sex, consent and keeping themselves safe online.

For GCSE RE, Year 10 have been studying ethics, with a focus on Human Rights and Social Justice. Many of the lessons learned in class were mirrored in real life as they were able to witness the development of the Black Lives Matter movement in the UK and the effect this had upon the world in terms of social justice. They have also been learning about Crime and Punishment and we have had many debates about this ethical topic, including a court room drama lesson around the death penalty. They have enjoyed these topics and have discussed the issues in a mature and sensible way. More recently their focus has been on their end of year examinations and preparing for these.
