A position paper is a succinct presentation of a delegate's agenda and desired outcomes in committee. It is a statement of purpose that demonstrates depth of background knowledge and research preparation. A quality position paper reflects a nuanced understanding of the delegate's assigned country, its foreign policy, and its positions on the committee's topics of consideration.
To prepare position papers, delegates should review their committee's background guide and develop an understanding of each topic from the perspective of their assigned country or character.
Double-delegations on the Security Council should submit a single, jointly-written position paper.
Due Date and Submission Information
All delegates are invited to submit a position paper, and can find official guidelines at the bottom of this page.
Position papers are due before midnight on Wednesday, 8 April.
Delegates should send their position papers as a PDF attachment to oaklanduniversitymun@gmail.com with the subject line: [Committee] [Country or Character] Position Paper. Papers should be titled in the same manner. For example, a paper prepared by delegation of Iceland for the WHO should be titled "WHO Iceland Position Paper."
