Evaluation and Awards

OUMUN presents a range of individual and team awards to recognize delegates for their efforts in committee. Below you can read more about individual and team evaluation along with the awards offered by the conference.

Evaluation

Delegates are evaluated across four categories at OUMUN:

For each session attended, delegates receive a score from 1 to 5 in each category. Delegates who earn a score of 5 demonstrate an exceptional representation of their assigned country, expert knowledge of the topics under discussion and the rules of procedure, and consistently offer meaningful, substantive contributions to debate, caucusing, and resolution writing.

If a delegate must miss a committee session for any reason, they should notify both their faculty advisor and the dais in advance. Unexcused absences will result in a score of 0 for the missed session. This may substantially affect both individual and team score averages.

Delegate scores are averaged across each committee session for the purposes of individual and team awards.

Individual Delegate Awards

Superior Medal

The Superior Medal is the highest individual award at OUMUN. This medal recognizes delegates for exceptional performance in each evaluated category.

Excellent Medal

The Excellent Medal recognizes delegates for outstanding performance in each evaluated category. Such delegates offer significant contributions to debate, caucusing, and resolution writing, though perhaps not in a leading role. Such delegates maintain a strong presence in committee, but may demonstrate areas for refinement.

Book Award for Best Position Paper

The Book Award is offered by each committee to the delegate who submits the best position paper, as judged by the dais. Winning papers demonstrate outstanding quality in both research and writing. Winners will be offered a plaque and a book specifically chosen by the dais.

The Chair's Gavel

The Chair's Gavel is presented to a delegate at the discretion of the dais. This delegate typically demonstrates extraordinary skill in committee.

Team Awards

OUMUN presents first-, second-, and third-place trophies to delegations. The first-place trophy is awarded to the delegation with the highest team score, calculated as the average of individual scores from each member of the delegation. The second and third-place trophies are offered to delegations with the next highest averages, respectively.
