This is the landing page for the First Annual Tour d'Fentress Road Rally. If you haven't registered yet, go to https://www.bikereg.com/tour-de-fentress. Basically this ride is a series of looped routes, starting and ending at Sawbriar Brewing Company in Jamestown, TN. Routes will be 8, 17, 20, 30, 40, 50, 62.5 and 90+ miles, with most going thru or near the Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area (BSFNRRA). BSF is a national park service area dedicated for "use," not "preservation." Lotsa mountain bikers, horseback riders & kayakers.
These roads are generally bike-safe, especially in small groups with appropriate flashers. Our routes generally avoid TN 52 (Rugby Pike) and other highways with blind curves and hills. When we ride on US 127 we use the wide shoulders where you don't have to share the car lane. You can send these Routes to your phone and the app Ride with GPS will give turn-by-turn directions.
We will employ a scattered (socially-distanced, if you will) start, with everyone self-pacing, aiming to arrive back at Sawbriar Brewing between 4-5 pm Central Time (yes, we are on Central Time). There will be a food truck or two, and live music that evening. Navarro's Mexican will be on-site all day, with Tennessee Dogs On Wheels from 4-7pm. Chris Arics will entertain from 4-6 and Billy Mac takes the stage from 7-9pm.
The ride is Self-Supporting, although there will be a pickup SAG vehicle on call if you get in a bind. Local gas stations, markets and public water spigots are shown in the RideWithGPS Routes.
All participants will be emailed a link to their chosen route the week of the Ride after we have verified the routes (avoiding new construction, hazards, etc). You may change your route the day of the ride, providing you tell the Sawbriar Central starter at check-in. You can avoid event-day paperwork by filling out the attached Waiver from this site (below).
All participants should be in the appropriate physical condition to bike their chosen routes. The sag wagon is for emergencies and not intended as a way to complete the journey because of poor conditioning.
Helmets are required
Front & back lights are highly encouraged
Cell phone should be brought for emergencies. Routes are provided for RideWithGPS / Strava / etc apps
Rain gear should be brought just in case, the ride is not dependent on weather
Each bike should have at least one water bottle for hydration
It is recommended that bicycles be tuned up and checked prior to the ride. Spare tires/tools recommended
Directions will be handed out the morning of the ride (Cue sheets). Best option is to download the GPS Routes and use your phone
There are no en-route Aid Stations or stops. There are convenience marts, stores, gas stations and churches where water and/or restrooms may be available.
You may start any time after 10:00 am Central Time. Suggested start times (below) are to stagger the riders and to encourage arrival back at Sawbriar around 4pm.
Each participant over 21 will receive a beer of choice from the Sawbriar Selection on June 19th. Your Tour d'Fentress bracelet is your token to purchase the beer.
The Tour d'Fentress bracelet also has the emergency contact number: 309-370-3700
