Design Statement
Design Statement
This is a short audio drama centering around memory, forgetting, and remembering. The narrative is inspired by a horror movie I randomly watched with my friends on the weekend and a personal experience. I attached the script, the audio drama, and a sample illustration of the character to this page. I chose to develop an audio drama because it is a simple and light audio form and an appropriate medium to introduce concepts.
I record the audio using my MacBook Air M2 and Audio Technica headphones and edit the audio file using GarageBand application.
Learning Objectives
After listening to this audio drama, learners will be able to:
Identify the concepts introduced in the audio drama.
Analyze the examples of the concepts from their experience.
Evaluate the effectiveness of the remembering technique introduced in the audio drama
Explain the implication of the concepts in learning design.
Connect previously learned concepts with new concepts they will learn.
Theories and Principles
This artifact is designed by following these theories and principles:
Cognitive Load Theory: the artifact is presented with a simple design to avoid burdening learners' cognitive load.
Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning - Coherence Principle: the artifact uses a simple design and concept relevant to the message.
Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning - Signaling Principle: the artifact uses tone emphasis and vocal cues to highlight important parts.
Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning - Personalization Principle: the artifact features a character explaining the concepts in first-person and conversational language.
Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning - Voice Principle: the artifact uses real human voice with some editing in pitch and volume.
